MY THOUGHTS
While it might not be a literary masterpiece, something about the characters and their complex relationships keeps me devouring these books.
Picking up immediately after the chaotic events of the second book, we find ourselves in the aftermath of the Pitball stadium battle with the Nymphs. However, there's no time for the characters to dwell on the trauma, as they are thrust into the challenge of The Reckoning – a competition designed to separate the strong from the weak. The tension escalates with "Hell Week," where upper-level students bully the freshmen, adding extra pressure.
The relationships are stealing the spotlight – from the twins and the heirs to Tory and Darius, Tory and Caleb, and many more. The charm lies in the characters' flaws and shameless portrayal, making them feel real.
Bonus: We finally get some answers about the twins' past and history, including their order forms!
The tension between Tory and Darius reaches new heights. We are still waiting on that first kiss three books in, but the journey is heating up. The playful and sexy banter keeps us on our toes, while the complexity of their feelings, entangled with mutual attraction and a dash of hatred, adds depth to their dynamic.
Meanwhile, Darcy and Orion plunge into a forbidden romance, showcasing Orion's transformation from a public jerk to a softie in private moments with Darcy.
In the midst of romantic entanglements, the friendship between Darius and Orion is a refreshing touch. Their strange guardian bond becomes a source of humor and genuine friendship; I'll be interested to see how their friendship plays out with the heirs long term.
Seth's constant flip-flopping personality, especially towards the twins, remains frustrating. His indecisiveness on liking or hating the twins adds a frustrating layer to the story, leaving me eager for him to figure his crap out.
I am suspicious about Diego, and my gut tells me to remain cautious. As the story progresses, I wonder if there's more to him than meets the eye or if he will be another villain.
I'm excited to see the growth of the heirs and other characters in the series as Tory and Darcy continue to discover their strengths and navigate their roles in the fae world; I anticipate some significant character development ahead.
Overall, The Reckoning has risen to the top as my favorite in the series. The evolving relationships, heightened romance, and cliffhangers make it an irresistible read. If you're ready for an emotional rollercoaster, this series is for you!
